RETAINING WALL FAILURES

Retaining walls fail three ways: Sliding, over-turning or foundation settlement. Causes for these failure mechanisms can be because of: insufficient wall reinforcement, inadequate drainage behind the wall or lack of sufficient foundation at the base to resist settlement. Dr. Witherspoon has extensive experience in not only designing walls that will perform in expansive clay, creek installation and other environments but also forensic evaluation of failed walls to determine reasons for failure and also remedial methods to restore lateral capacity that will protect adjacent structures.

There are far too many poorly constructed walls in the Metroplex that lack proper design criteria and will eventually become a problem for the homeowner or property owner.
